It breaks my heart that in 2020, women and girls around the world especially in low-income countries like our very own Uganda, continue to be held behind because of their menstruation.
Some cultures in Uganda consider menstruating girls 'contaminated,' 'dirty', and 'impure.'
Women and girls in particular those in rural settings suffer the most from stigma and lack of facilities to help them during their menstrual periods.
The stigma attached to menstruation or the inability to afford period products stops girls from going to school, putting them more at the risk of entering child marriages, experiencing an early pregnancy, malnourishment, domestic violence, and pregnancy complications.
Poor Menstrual Hygiene Management propels inequality by limiting the extent and ways in which girls and women can participate in the public sphere.
With a small contribution of UGX 10,000 or $3, you can bless a girl child in Ongai sub-county, Nwoya District, Northern Uganda with a pack of re-usable sanitary pads and bars of soap.
PS: A pack of re-usable sanitary pads contains 6 pads. Each pad can be relatively used for 12 months (1 year).
Let's eradicate Poor Menstrual Hygiene Management together bit by bit in Northern Uganda.
