The project focuses on empowering people to understand the existing solutions to their everyday big and small problems using permaculture as the tool and to realise the beauty of traditional ways of living life and effectively and efficiently incorporating the wisdom in their everyday life.
Sadly, today money governs the economy, a country is rich or poor not based on the resources it has but the money it carries. Uganda is such fertile land, everything grows here. There are so many local solutions to each problem the community is facing, we just want to be the bridge between people and solutions to their problems.
We have two main target groups:
1. Nansana Women's group
This project is about building food and water security for the women of Nansana Slum. It focuses more on the needs of the women in the community and ways to empower the women by enabling them to grow their own food by using alternative non-conventional food growing methods.
We will be working with approximately 40 women from the community, establishing home gardens in each of their living spaces despite the size of the space for a month.
2. Nkoowe Community Children
The aim of the project is to create a small permaculture community garden cum demonstration site (food and water security) with the children of the community.
The program will be a 13 to 16 days program (exclusive of the days of meeting the community and establishing some connection with them, which would take roughly a week), available to not only the students but anyone who has the curiosity to learn and grow with nature for free. We will together create the community garden on the land in Nwooke (30m * 15 m)
This project focuses on creating awareness and education amongst the youngest people on the importance and relevance of sustainability and understanding why they are the future of the country and how they can restore and preserve their ancient ancestral sustainable living practices.
To be able to achieve all this, we have come up with a budget of about $2000 to cater for the tools required, transport and the facilitator's bills.
