"A pilot action research entitled "A Study on menstrual management in Uganda" found that on average, over 57% of schoolgirls absent themselves from school due to menstrual-related challenges. The study found that around half of the girl pupils in the study report missing 1-3 days of primary school per month. This translates into a loss of 8 to 24 school days per year. This means per term a girl pupil may miss up to 8 days of study. On average, there are 220 learning days in a year and missing 24 days a year translates into 11% of the time a girl pupil will miss learning due to menstrual periods. The study revealed a clear lack of sustainable menstrual hygiene management support. (SNV and IRC, funded by Austrian Aid, 2012)."

Therefore, Freda Were Foundation under the Girls' Science Programme is again running a campaign called the "1000 RE-USABLE PADS CAMPAIGN" where a total of 1000 re-usable pads will be collected to be donated to 1000 rural school going girls in Tororo, Mbale and Iganga Districts.This will atleast help curb menstrual-related challenges to a certain percentage. These re-usable pads will be used by the girls for atleast a period of 6months which would save them from using old clothes they have been using thus helping them not to contract infections which can result in long term adverse health risks and as well not miss classes. Your contribution towards this campaign will be used to buy re-usable pads which will be distributed to our lovely girls thus enabling them pass through their menstrual cycle safely and healthy with minimal chances of contracting infections. Along side donating these pads, there will be a career guidance workshop those days which will enable the girls have quality career guidance most especially in the STEM fields from experts from our team. Receiving your contributions will help us reach our goal of reaching out to 1000 girls. Atleast we will be rest assured that every girl will receive a re-usable Pad.Thus making the "1000 re-usable pads" project a very big success.
