Heavy rains in the Rwenzori Mountains of western Uganda have led to heavy flooding. Here is the situation as described by my friend Tsongo Possiano:
"We had a horrible night and morning two days back. It rained heavily up in the mountain leading to over flooding of two Rivers of Mubuku and Nyamwamba where water has spread all over Kasese town. On the other side of Mubuku, people's homes, schools, plantations and animals, bridges and roads were swept away.
Some other people survived, however, today morning again rivers over flooded leaving those who survived homeless. People are now homeless, no food and properties like beddings, clothing and utensils all taken. We kindly seek for help to resettle our fellows. It has become more terrible for some of us who likes working with communities. So far I have 7 people at home and more are still loitering looking for where to stay and get food so we plan to collect them and pay rent for them, provide food and other essentials. Tell a friend about this tragic situation in our country."
You can read a report of the events in The Guardian, and witness directly the flooding and its aftermath in video reporting from the scene by NTV Uganda:

Having traveled recently in the area, I know firsthand the vulnerable living conditions of many people there. At the same time, they have a strong and optimistic community spirit that will help them recover from this disaster, unfortunately coming at the same time as the Covid-19 crisis. Please help by supporting their resettlement through this campaign.
