EMERGENCY SITUATION
Dear Friends:
I am sad to report that we are now homeless. We had been renting two rooms in a Kasubi slum on the outskirts of Kampala to house 16 of the 32 children in our care. The other 16 are with my mother in the Mukono District, Nakifuma County, Kasawo Sub-County, in Kizanyirizi Village.
On the 27th of June, the landlord locked us out without food, clothing, bedding or shelter, and we spent the night outside on the streets. With the support of the local council, we were able to break in in the morning to get food for the children. A friend at UNICEF was able to get a sack of rice and a sack of sugar for which we are so grateful. Often, all they eat for a meal is bread or beans. Children require proper nutrition.
This is a disastrous situation for us! Please help with any amount that you can, and ask friends, family and co-workers to do the same. Our initial campaign was not successful, so we must keep trying.
Our goal is to, as soon as possible, move these 16 children out of the city and join the other 16 in the countryside where life is safer and more wholesome. They deserve so much better... we currently have 3 acres to build a shelter but lack the funds to do so.
We are calling upon everyone who can help us to raise, at minimum, $2,000US = 1,916.60€ = 7,550,638.00 UGX as soon as possible to cover the cost of housing for the children. This would provide about 6 months rental in the slums, or allow us to build an adequate shelter in the countryside.
